Requirements

To ensure the safety of all animals in our care and family members in our household, dogs must meet the following qualifications:

• Good temperament around new dogs and people including adults and children

• No history of biting or aggression towards other animals or people

• Unable to jump or climb a six-foot chain link fence

Health

• Free of contagious disease

• Up to date on vaccinations including Distemper-Parvo, Leptospirosis, Bordetella, and Rabies

• Spayed or neutered

• Free of parasites such as fleas, ticks, or mites

Behavior

Age & Size

• Minimum of 5 months of age or older

• Maximum of 40 pounds or less

Next step is scheduling the one time Meet & Greet evaluation. This initial introduction of your canine into our home provides the opportunity for your companion to meet our resident dogs and social group. We plan this introduction carefully and methodically observing their personality and interactions to ensure they feel comfortable around other dogs and our family. This important first step helps us determine whether our family-style lodging is a compatible environment for your beloved companion. Vaccination records for all required vaccines are to be sent in advance prior to evaluation day. We will need a completed Meet & Greet Evaluation Liability Waiver at the time of arrival.

Meet & Greet Evaluation

After a passed Meet & Greet evaluation, we are ready to welcome your dog into our home! Reservation requests can be made by email or phone. Space is limited, so it is encouraged to schedule reservations as far in advance as possible. A deposit of 50% of the anticipated stay is required to secure a reservation. Should plans change, you have up to seven days prior to the scheduled arrival date to cancel for a full refund. Cancellations made less than seven days in advance forfeit the entire deposit. For your dogs first stay, we will need a completed DCPL Boarding & Daycare Agreement and Emergency Vet Care Authorization and Contact Form.

Pack & Prep

When preparing for your dog’s stay, we recommend keeping their belongings simple and focused on the essentials. Our goal is to provide everything they need to feel comfortable while also helping you protect the personal items that are special to you and your companion. Food: We strongly recommend bringing your dog’s regular food. Maintaining a familiar diet helps minimize digestive upset and keeps their routine consistent while they are away from home. Medications: Please provide any medications your dog requires, along with clear instructions for administration. If your dog requires or prefers a specific type of feeding bowl, you are welcome to bring one. For first-time visitors, we encourage you to bring a used pillowcase, blanket, or similar item that carries familiar scents from home. These familiar smells can provide reassurance as your dog adjusts to their new surroundings.

Please keep in mind that Desert Canyon Pet Lodge is a family-style, communal environment. Bedding and comfort items are kept in our living room, where all of our canine guests have access to them. While we make every effort to keep your dog’s belongings clean and safe, accidents can happen in a social environment. Items may become soiled, chewed, misplaced, or damaged during normal activities and interactions. For this reason, we strongly recommend leaving your dog’s favorite or irreplaceable belongings at home. Personal toys are not recommended. Toys can sometimes create competition or conflict within a social group, so we carefully manage the items available to the dogs in our care. If you choose not to bring items from home, we are happy to provide comfortable bedding and bowls for your dog during their stay.

Arrival Day

The day has finally arrived! When you arrive for your dog’s scheduled drop-off, simply give us a call and a member of our family will meet you outside to welcome you. We’ll take a few moments to complete and confirm all required agreements, review your dog’s care instructions in detail, and carefully document the food, medications, and personal belongings you’ve brought for their stay. When you’re ready, a member of our family will accompany your canine companion inside and begin their thoughtful integration into our home and social group. We understand that saying goodbye can be an emotional moment. Your dog looks to you for reassurance and can often pick up on your emotions, so we encourage you to keep the farewell positive, calm, and upbeat. A confident and cheerful goodbye encourages your companion to feel that they are heading somewhere safe and enjoyable easing the transition.
